DETAILED ITINERARY

DAY 1: CITY TOUR DAWEI AND MAUNG MA GAN BEACH (-/-/-)

Flight from Yangon to Dawei. After check in we get to know the capital of Tanintharyi Division in the south of the Myanmar, formerly known as Tavoy. Dawei was one of the first cities, where the English settled after the 1st Anglo-Burmese in 1826. As a result the town has a long lasting history and picturesque buildings from the colonial times. We will have a look around to get a picture of Dawei’s daily life and famous sights. On our tour we will have a little excurse in traditional Southern Myanmar medicine. A family owned cashew nut business with its ever smiling workers will show us how much work it is to peel one nut. We will stop by at old colonial buildings and get to know what their purpose was.

The day tour is also about getting in touch with locals. Stop wherever you want and ask whatever you like to know. During our trip we will have a taste of the regional cuisine. In the afternoon we will be on our way to the well-known Maung Ma Gan Beach. Enjoy the relaxed and uncrowded beach atmosphere with a sun downer and a delicious seafood dinner. Return to your hotel after a fabulous sunset.

DAY 2: OVERLAND DRIVE TO MYEIK (B/-/-)

After breakfast we leave for Myeik. These 230 kilometers of road have been closed for foreigners for a long time, so people were taking planes from Yangon. In the past even locals needed a permit to pass that road. Our drive takes us through tiny villages. We will stop every now and then to discover the daily lives of the rural community. The late afternoon is for your own leisure.

DAY 3: LIFE SEEING TOUR OF MYEIK (B/L/-)

Already in the early 17th century the East Indian Trading were unloading the ships at the ports of Myeik. Most of the goods would go inland and from there up to Tanintharyi and further on to the old capital of Siam Ayutthaya. “Beik” as the locals call there hometown produces everything for the fishing industry what is needed. Have you ask yourself where all the ice comes from to keep the seafood fresh? We will visit a wooden boat wharf where they still build the boats like in the old days. Climb up and look workers over their shoulder or just observe the incredible skilled work.

Not all seafood and fish can come from the ocean. To feed the enormous daily demand fish farms are in need. How difficult it is to cultivate seafood we get to know at a local lobster farm. The most famous dish in Myeik is a fried rice noodle with seafood. Learn how simple it is to make these noodles. As many nations came together the local cuisine became a mix of Burmese, Thai, Malaysian and Indian. We can have a taste of it at the local snack market.

In the afternoon transfer to jetty by Tuk Tuk. From the jetty take a traditional wooden boat to Pahtaw Island (10 mins) and visit the reclining Buddha. Enjoy the panoramic sunset views from the top of the hill.

Accommodation: Hotel in Myeik
Meals: Breakfast at your Hotel

DAY 4: TRANSFER TO KAWTHAUNG - CITY TOUR (B/-/-)

In the morning you have enough time to stroll around the market for souvenir shopping or simple relax at your hotel before departing by plane to Kawthaung. After check in to your hotel we will visit Pyi Taw aye Pagoda located on the top of the hill. Furthermore we will drive to Victoria point named for King Bayinnaung, a Burmese monarch who invaded Thailand several times between 1548 and 1569. A bronze statue of Bayinnaung stands at the top of a hill on the cape.

In the afternoon we visit a 400 Meter long wooden bridge which connects Pa Lut Tot Tot Island and the mainland. Our last stop of the day is 555 mountain as the locals call it. The hill offers a spectacular sunset view over the whole town and nearby islands in Andaman Sea.

Meals: Breakfast at your Hotel

DAY 5: COCKS COMB ISLAND DAY TRIP (B/L/D)

Cocks Comb Island is part of the Mergui Archipelago in the Andaman Sea. It is situated just off the coast of Kawthaung (Kawthoung), the most Southern city of Myanmar (Burma). The island is a limestone atoll without a beach, but with a stunning lagoon, shape like a heart. The inlet changes the color of the ocean and that’s why it is also called Emerald Heart Island.

In the morning we leave from Kawthaung Myo Ma Jetty. We stop first at our secret snorkeling spot once more for a spectacular underwater world. Find Nemo and some other tiny little creatures like lion and scorpion fish. Take some time to enjoy the underwater.

After some stunning snorkeling in the bay we procced to Cocks Comb Island and enter the Emeralds Heart by swimming through a natural tunnel (guided). The sea inside the inlet is calm and perfect for snorkeling. The most specular are the big schools of fish in the entrance here.

Our third stop will be Dunkin Island also called Say Tan Kyun. We enjoy buffet lunch on a paradise beach. The fine white sand is a perfect place for beach holiday photos. Feel free to take a stroll along the beach and listen to the sound of the ocean and jungle.

We continue towards St. Matthews Island better known under its Burmese name Zar Det Gyi Kyun. Here we find another great place for snorkeling. A big spread of mainly hard coral is to discover. Between the hard coral you can find some soft coral with little nemos inside.
